Spray Paint Introduction
Welcome to SprayPaint.org.uk, the one-stop website
for spray paint information and resources plus ads for cheap paints,
safety gear and painting accessories. In this section we try to give
you a brief introduction to some of the various application methods
and situations where spray painting offers the opportunity for a quality
finish. Wondering about surface preparation, spraying techniques,
paint types or the likes? This basic primer (pardon the pun) should
be for you!
Spraying Equipment
You may use an aerosol can, air-brush or spray gun to
apply spray paint. With all spray paint, you should always remember
to wear the appropriate safety equipment and only spray in a well
ventilated environment.
Paint Types
Water based, solvent based, acrylic, varnish, special
coatings and finishes may all be applied to a surface with one spray
paint method or another.
Surface Preparation
Proper preparation of any surface is essential to avoid
any painting mishaps. Whilst the paint must be appropriate to the
surface and able to key to it, the surface itself must be totally
dry and free from any dust, hairs etc.
Spraying Techniques
There are a wide range of spraying techniques as the
range of situations where it is used is diverse. An artist using an
air brush to create their latest fantasy concept art, with a broad
palette and intricate detail, will use wholly different actions when
compared to the motor industry professional, painting a car body shell
in a single consistent colour with an industrial spray gun. What all
spray painting does is allow the painter to achieve a range of opacity
in their finish. From a light misty spray cast through to an intense
burst of colour achieved by keeping the spray concentrated on a single
spot, the range of effects can at times be astonishing.
